CUTLERY   4 0 0 1

Line Project – Plane between line and line

Cutlery 4001 is made from a special bronze formula which is the healthiest material for use as a tableware.

MATERIALS

Korea’s unique metal, ‘Yugi’

The brassware, called ‘Yugi’ is Korea’s unique metal which is forged with a unique ratio 78% of copper and 22% of tin, has been in use traditionally for centuries. Since the copper is mixed with tin, it is also safe from exposure to harmful heavy metals.

Yugi (brassware) is the best known metal for tableware due to its special properties.

Since the particular alloy has sterilization properties, it naturally kills harmful bacteria such as salmonella and can help prevent stomatitis. It also immediately responds to the presence of pesticides or toxic substances.
The alloy furthermore produces minerals by itself that our body needs, and is the healthiest metal to be used as a material for tableware because it is excellent at both holding heat and preserving chilled food items.

EFFECTS

The healthiest tableware material Yugi

Sterilization Effect

Yugi alloy kills and stops the proliferation of bacteria such as the pathogenic coliform bacilli O-157 bacteria, which is the strongest disease of the coliform bacilli type which causes food poisoning and septicemia in summer.

Detecting Harmful Ingredients

The brassware’s elemental properties are such that it exhibits discoloration when there are any harmful substances such as pesticides or other toxins present in the food.

Creating Minerals

Yugi alloy naturally produces essential minerals; copper, zinc and sodium etc. It also helps to preserve the nutrients and freshness of foods.

Effect of preventing cold sore

Yugi brassware naturally kills harmful bacteria such as salmonella and can help prevent stomatitis

DESIGN INSPIRATION

Cutlery 4001 is a modern version of Korean traditional spoon.

Its’ simple silhouette has been designed from the straight line and curve found in a circle.

Especially, the curves of handle design is based on ‘Baeheullim-Gidung’ in Korean traditional architecture.

‘Baeheullim-Gidung’ is similar to the Greek temples pillar, ‘Entasis’, but it is characterized by its maximum diameter being one-third of the ground.

To emphasize the light focused on the metal, the handle is designed with various plane.
Cutlery 4001 is reinterpreted the material, usage and making method of tradition spoon with modern style.

MANUFACTURE

The harmony of tradition and modernity

The Cutlery 4001 is a new type of cutlery made in compliance with modern manufacturing methods using machinery, while also maintaining authentic traditional manufacturing techniques done by hand such as stamping, cutting, and trimming.

Traditional Casting Method

Traditional brassware spoons and chopsticks are made by cutting and trimming by hand, using tools (after making a mold for the product’s shape), then melting and pouring the materials into the mold. Since all parts of the process are done by hand, the production rate is slow but it can be formed into many different shapes.

Press Method

The press-processing method currently used in production of most metal spoons and chopsticks via machinery, after spreading the metal and stamping it out. This method, which mainly results in a flat and thin shape being produced, was introduced following the era of industrialization.
